Dov Bechhofer – Use of Virtual Reality in Medical Industry
A radiologist Dov Bechhofer says that in a virtual reality environment; users are able to complete the task of correcting segmentation errors within MRI scans in a shorter time and with higher rates of accuracy in comparison with using a conventional 2D interface. He further says that when using the traditional 2D interface, most individuals were around one minute slower than when using a virtual reality environment. He further added that technology allowed the task to be completed at an average of 68 seconds, which is faster than when using the current solution.
According to Dov Bechhofer a follow-up survey has been conducted among 30 participants who preferred the virtual reality environment over the current technique and 2D interface. He further says that the people who are the part of this survey reveal that using virtual reality software was more engaging than the existing 2D interface. He added that recently, clinicians have started turning toward automated segmentation in an effort to increase efficiency and consistency and the research are still going on finding a more efficient way to correct the out put error and work has now begun on using the virtual reality technology in order to accelerate the process.
Dov Bechhofer further added that research and development are still ongoing into several virtual reality MRI segmentation software solutions and interfaces. He further added that in built training modes are also likely to be incorporated across future versions which will allow users to refine their technique via a library of sample data and scans. He says that he sees a great potential in the use of virtual reality environment and he is looking forward to see the utilization of a virtual reality environment more widely in the medical industry.
